"Things fall down. People look up. And when it rains, it pours."
– Magnolia, Paul Thomas Anderson, 1999.
This is, and forever will be, my Magnolia. I saved it from wisteria in 2020 — my first action when the COVID lockdown hit.
When we bought the house, the garden was a real jungle. The previous owner had let it overgrow.
An old wisteria, though magnificent, had taken over everything — strangling the magnolia and even reaching into the apple tree.
The magnolia was a sore sight, barely flowering.

When lockdown came, I decided to clear it all.
Since then, I’ve had the quiet joy of watching it recover — waiting each year for it to bloom again, becoming the magnificent piece it was always meant to be.

As it happens, Magnolia has always been one of my favorite movies.
